Teenage Needs

Now, being a girl/teenager at least for me was mostly dismaying and constantly confusing, full of never ending questions which had few if any answers and of course this marked the beginning of the rest of my life but fortunately at this point, as I was but a teen, I had no idea of what it meant or of what was to come. And I am so thankful for all of my ignorance and such.  As I came to appreciate as I imagine many of you have as well, the less any of us understands about the future the better because it’s all truly unknown territory and why clog our minds with such stuff.  So let’s concentrate on the teenage years for better or worse.

Room Décor with Ceramic Art

Animals of all kinds – A variety of decidedly unusual animals unless one is a teenage girl.  The following real and imaginary animals are essential decorative accessories for any growing girl’s room. Please decide what you think each of the following statues depict. You’re on your own.

Longing for Love

Why must I be a teenager in love?  Those turbulent teen age years when every teenage girl dreams of meeting prince charming or at least having a date to the prom with someone. Ah, days gone by. Let’s revisit some highlights from this magic time. Be sure to think pink.

Pink Poodle Magazine Holder. Growing up we would have died for one of these. The perfect place for our Photoplay magazines whether heart throb Troy Donahue, Pat Boone, Frankie Avalon was on the cover. As soon as we track down a vintage movie star mag we’re dumping it in the poodle pronto. In the meantime we purchased the original sound track album of Doctor Zhivago, which is really too big for our poodle unless placed at an angle as it currently is. Omar Sharif looks so sexy be it with Geraldine Chaplin or Julie Christie. What a heart breaker he was and how cold it must have been. If you look carefully you’ll note a Photo Play with Sandra Dee and Edd “Cookie” Burns on the cover. We are in love.

Pink Clock Radio. Wow! We still can’t believe we found this genuine, Westinghouse 1950’s working clock radio model H710T5 at a local thrift store for $10. Yes, we would have paid lots more. Of course it’s AM only, no counter culture FM can be found on this radio. In fact, if you check the dial out carefully at 650 and 1250 you’ll see the letters “CD.” We think that meant you could turn the dial to these stations in the event of a Civil Defense alert and get updates about the impending nuclear disaster as you were running to your bomb shelter. Fortunately, this small appliance was of considerable use in peace time as well. For example, if you wanted to be lulled to sleep by the soothing renditions of Frank Sinatra, you just set the sleep cycle for up to 60 minutes. And getting up, you could be jarred out of bed by an alarm or coaxed out of bed by Elvis the Pelvis himself. Without this all purpose must-have who would have ever gotten to high school on time?
Pink Princess Phone. Only $5.99, that’s right. five dollars and ninety nine cents for this classic. And like the clock radio, it works. You can call on pulse or tone. Well used the numbers on the pads have long since been rubbed off, but the buttons still light up making it easy to place that urgent middle of the night call to your best girl friend after you’re supposed to be asleep.

Melody Tote and Privacy Diary. Pink vinyl by Deb-u-Teen, this go anywhere tote holds 10 of your favorite 45 records. Decorated with a musically attuned, ponytailed teen, its easy to carry. Just pull up the plastic handles and you’re outta here and off to your best friends. Should we ever develop the attention span necessary to look through countless 45’s, we’ll pick some classics if they’re not too expensive. And of course, we’re on the look out for a record player to play them, our preference, a travel, suitcase like, portable record player which plays 45’s, 78’s and perhaps even 33 1/3’s. We can dream can’t we?  Listen to your favorite 45 records housed in this Melody Tote vinyl record holder while writing your truest and most private thoughts in your own pink vinyl diary.

Memento Holder.  When finished with the above, pile on another set of records and open up your white vinyl delightfully decorated zippered memo box just for those never to be forgotten memories.

Girl on Pink Loveseat.  All we can say is truly, absolutely and utterly adorable –the cutest, thin, well proportioned. Blond, pony-tailed young miss sitting on her purple-pink love seat. Comfort and beauty combined.

Poodle Toilet Paper Holder. No girl’s bathroom would be complete without a special place to keep an extra roll of toilet paper, but such a place must be cleverly disguised and how much cleverer could such an item be than a hand crocheted pink poodle toilet paper holder? Wow! Did Mom make this fantastic item just for her beloved teen?  Or was it her Grandma?

Young Lovers First Kiss.  This moment captured delightfully and of course innocently by a female artist went on work for Hallmark cards or Hasbro toys. Our smitten teen stares at and wonders longingly about how this could happen to her, and as she spends much too much time wondering she cannot help but cry and hope that someday, maybe someday she’ll get her first kiss and it will be this terrific.

“For Every Young Heart”  by Connie Francis, dream queen and singing star, who took valuable time away from her singing career to write a book just for the girl teen, a guide to finding love of course while still keeping her virginity in tact, perfect tact.  Although such a project sounds impossible not according to Connie – read this book and learn how and much more.

Red Man.  A stick it to me red stuffed man adorned with telling and tempting phrasing to capture your feelings of the moment ranging from love to hate. Just pick up a pin and stick it in whatever phrase matches your emotions.  If one stick isn’t enough, pick up another pin and start over. A perfect, yes perfect, way to express yourself in the privacy of our own home. And you can change your mind and re-stick  at any time and at any place on any designation you so desire.
